Hi everyone!

well, here is a brief update of how the race went!!
the race was good (but hard), and now i have unfinished business so will have to go do it again soon so i can try and do better!

On the first day we had a 3km run, then 55 km cycle, then 33 km mountain run, up over goat pass – i had a really good first run and bike, and then it all went to cack on th run and i had mad cramp in my hip flexors and my knee blew out – so i basically had to walk the second half, cause i couldnt go down (cause of my knwee), and i couldnt lift my legs up (cause of the cramp!).  so i was very angers, having a hissyfit every hundred metres or so when my legs buckled under me!  took an hour longer than i should have.  gutted! still, made it to the finish line, and hoped for a recovery so i could finish the second day! that evening we found out that the weather was going to the dogs, so they cancelled the kayak leg (SO gutted – my one chance to make up all that time i had lost in the run), and we wer to do a 140km cycle into CHCH, kayak down the grotty avon river, then cycle another 10km to Sumner Beach!

gale force winds came in that night while we were camping at klondyke corner just out from aurthers pass after the first day and out tent collapsed on us 3 times – found out in the morning it was cause one of the poles had snapped in the wind!  and it was peeing like a race horse too – thankfully  the tent didnt let any water in!  so, that wasnt so bad – we got on our bike s about 8am the next morning, in the pouring rain, and headed off – man, what a mix of elements.  had a tail wind in the rain to start which was all good, and then, it fined up a bit (sweatin like a mad man by now cause of all the clothes i had on from klondyke corner), and we rode up over the hills past all the club fields, flock hill station and castle hill – man, there was one hill, the craigieburn cutting, holy smokes – makes the round taupo hills and k1 hills look like a down hill roller coaster – half the field was walking, i was panting and swearing like a rabid goat, but i managed not to walk, so was stoked!  the hill up over porters pass was not too bad, but super duper fun coming down the other side!

anyway, got the cycle nicely enough, then we hit the avon river – i could have gotten out and walked down the river in a faster time!  it was about half a foot deep, half a foot wide, and clouds of stinking weed getting caught in your rudder every 5 mins!  needless to say there was a few angry racers on the river!  finally managed to finish that, and had a nice little ride into sumner, where the illusive can of speights and finishing medal (and a pie) wer waiting. good to have done it, but at first i thought i wouldnt do it again, but more and more i think oif the unfinished business, so may have to go back again.

mum did really well, she came third in her section, and got lots of goodies.  i am still feeling the cramp a bit, and cant walk down stairs too easily, but hey, its all a learning curve and i’ll know for next time!!!!

ok, spot you all later!
